*

Across the sea,

on a vast stretch of land,

the forest lay thick with dampness,

shows its face, resembling our own,

staying close and surrounded,

slowly sprouted, branching out-

our clan’s off shoot.

Roots dug deep,

clutching the soaked dripping earth,

grounding and etching our mark

filling lustrous growth and prosperity-

human eco-beeing thriving.

The Pahruli river once flowed

from the Kumari mountains,

through the wide expanse

of our ancestral land,

that lay fertile and boundless.

Until time's ill fate

and tsunami's spree

that sprinkled its salted water

and scattered lives far and wide.

The sway of evolution

absorbed by the seeds of life's cycle

had fallen hither and tither,

now sprout anew on branches with vigor.

A race that spread its branches

stands laughing, thrilled and tall,

had twin mothers' laps now, to cradle.

Though separated by two lands,

they stood as one race,

time sings its grand song,

and the earth listens,

ears filled and overflowing

with echoes of this story.

Seeds of this mighty race tree

flew through the air, filling the land.

Where they fall, the soil and season,

guided by the call of time,

shaped their bloom

with unique faces,

a reflection of nature’s hidden wonders.

With the fragrance of ancient roots,

smeared with the soil of the motherland,

and holding grand symbols,

this old race stood, sparkling bright.

Against foreign kites that pecked,

to protect their young hatchlings,

both the mother hens

fiercely fought and defended.

From the severed umbilical cords,

flakes of vitality

unbroken and unworn,

continued to bring forth life.

The sickle, tightly knotted with

the tricolour flag

and triple thread strands,

cut the branches of this land.

Now, with weariness

and a sense of loss,

the roots shrink where they dwell.

Tap roots and fibrous roots

belonging to this land,

drew life’s essence

from the ancient red soil,

forming a grand forest all around.

The Tigers, masters of fierce leaps,

roamed the Vanni* land,

singing their moral codes.

While black snakes of treachery

are hidden beneath the armpit,

Buddha stands laughing,

holding the Lion's sword,

stained with the blood of tigers.

To imprint the foot prints

of the escaped tigers

awaits the motherland, with hopeful grace.
