Marie Colvin
A Historic Name the Tamil Nation Will Never Forget!
"The suffering I went through is nothing compared to what those Eelam Tamil people are enduring..." – These were the poignant words of Marie Colvin after losing her eye to an attack by the Sri Lankan military. Today, February 22nd, marks the remembrance day of this heroic woman.
Who was Marie Colvin?
In 2001, she bravely entered the Vanni region, becoming the first journalist in six years to expose the hidden genocide and suffering of Eelam Tamils to the world.
While exiting Vanni, she was struck by an explosive launched by the Sri Lankan army, which resulted in the loss of her left eye. From that day forward, wearing her iconic black eye patch, she became a persistent voice for Eelam on the global stage.
She remains a primary witness to the 2009 "White Flag" incident. She played a critical role in exposing the betrayal where political leaders, including Nadesan and Pulidevan, were gunned down by the Sri Lankan military on May 18, 2009, despite attempting to surrender with white flags under international assurances.
After losing an eye in Eelam, Marie continued to document humanity at its breaking point. On this same day in 2012, she was killed in a rocket attack while documenting the horrors of the Syrian war. She gave her life for her conviction: "I write about humanity pushed to the unbearable limit".
The Tamil Nation Remembers with Gratitude! 🙏
The blood shed by Marie Colvin in the struggle for justice for Eelam Tamils will never be in vain. As an international journalist, her testimonies remain vital evidence against the war crimes of the Sri Lankan state.
Today, on her remembrance day, let us salute this brave woman who risked her life for the self-determination of the Tamil people and the establishment of justice.
Though the voices that spoke the truth may fall silent, the questions they raised remain alive. Justice will prevail; time will provide the answer.
Our solemn salutations to this heroic woman who died for the truth! 🌹
